Yes, it is possible to partially close a position in MT4 by following next steps:

  1. Open the ‘Trade’ window:find the desired order in the ‘Trade’ window.

  2. Right click on the order:right click on the order and select the ‘Close’ option.

  3. Enter the closing amount:enter the number of lots you would like to close. Make sure this number is smaller than the number of lots you currently hold.

  4. Confirm closing position:after the confirmation, the system will close the number of positions you specified, and the remaining positions will continue to be held.

However, there are several factors that may make it impossible to partially close a position:

  1. Not enough lots:if your position size is 1 lot and you try to close 1.5 lots, the system will not be able to execute the request.

  2. Market closed:no position closing operations can be performed during non-trading hours or when the market is closed.

  3. Insufficient liquidity:under certain market conditions, particularly during news releases, liquidity may be insufficient, making it impossible to partially close a position.

  4. Trading strategy restrictions:some brokers may have specific restrictions on partial closing of positions, make sure to check the relevant terms for your account.

  5. Order status:if an order has been marked as ‘Cancelled’ or ‘Pending’, it is not possible to partially close a position.

It should be noted that partial closing of positions may affect your margin and position status. It is recommended to carefully consider all factors before closing positions.
